Dawson Euro Ratchet Release Shackles
The Euro Ratchet Release Shackles are by their design safety shackles and primarily used for steel works.

For contractors work where the shackles invariably will be dropped in soil, the Euro Ground Release Shackles are recommended. However, many contractors prefer the Ratchet Release Shackle. In fact it is mostly a matter of taste.

Advantages

Fast hook-up. Hook the shackles straight through standard pile lifting holes.

Fast release. Shackle release takes approximately 15 seconds - many times faster than chain or wire wrapped methods.

Positive release. The threaded pin withdrawal is positive and powerful.

Super safe. Ratchet mechanism ensures a fail-safe mode. Release action cannot take place accidentally.

Durability. Minimum number of components for reliability and ease of maintenance.

Strength. Stiff web section gives high strength/weight ratio on main steel casting. Top ring provides two dimensional flexible joint.

Material quality. Main casting: BS3100:1976: Grade BT2. Tensile strength 850-1000N/mm . High quality pin BS970:1955: EN36. Minimum tensile strength 1000 N/mm.

Model Designation - Euro Ratchet Release Shackles
The model designation indicates the distance in mm between bolt and belly and safe working load (S.W.L) in tonnes.

All shackles have been tested with twice the safe working load and are delivered with certificate.

Installation

• With the pin retracted, slide the shackle over the material to be lifted until the pin is approximately over the lifting hole.
• Press the ratchet pawl down with the thumb of one hand and turn the release nut of the shackle with the other hand.
• Continue turning in a clockwisse direction until the pin has gone through the hole in the member to be lifted and into the opposite side of the shackle.
• The indicator bar should not protrude from the face of the release nut.
• Two soft ropes should be attached to the D-shackles at each end of the toothed belt.
• The material may now be lifted. (It is prudent to tie the ends of the the shackle release ropes to the bottom of the memeber to prevent the ropes from becoming snagged or being caught in the wind and becoming inaccessible).

Release

• After lifting the material, the shackle is released by pulling the release ropes forst one way and then the oter, five or six times. The ratchet action withdraws the pin. The strok of the pull is limited by the D-shackles at the ends of the toothed belt.
