Dawson Hydrohammers are hydraulic, double action hammers with a high blow rate – 80-120 bl/min
The smaller hammers are well suited for sheet pile installations e.g. mounted on excavators, the largest for many offshore projects.
All hammers can operate under water.

Sheet legs or Sleeve
The smaller hammers are available with short sheet legs or long sheet legs. Short legs are normally used for hammers intended for leader guided operation and long legs for freely suspended operation.
HPH1200, HPH1800 and HPH2500 are with their relatively low weight and limited dimensions well suited for operation from an excavator. They are standard fitted with leg guides. With different leg inserts most sheet piles and steel profiles can be adopted. The HPH1800 and HPH2500 can with the right inserts install 430 mm ø, 530 mm ø and smaller diameter pipes too – please refer to the cross-sectional sketch beneath.
The HPH4500 and HPH6500 can be fitted with legs, but are – as the larger hammers – normally provided with a sleeve for installing pipes. A 36″ or 48″ sleeve covers all standard diameters up to 1214 mm. The HPH12k and HPH15k hammers are predominantly used for offshore projects.
With the wide range of hydraulic hammers from HPH1200 with 12 kNm energy transfer to HPH15k with 150 kNm energy transfer, and a variety of different inserts and pile sleeves, it is possible to find a Dawson hammer set that satisfies nearly any need.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”3892″ img_size=”345x 435″ alignment=”center” title=”Dawson Hammer configured as Sheet Piler”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”3876″ img_size=”345×435″ alignment=”center” title=”HPH6500 Hammer with Can (Sleeve)”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator color=”juicy_pink”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”3889″ img_size=”275×320″ alignment=”center” title=”HPH2400 Freely Suspended – Sheet Pile Configuration”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_column_text css_animation=”none”]
Hammer Characteristics
- Fast blow rate (from 80 to 120 bl/min) for rapid pile penetration
- Efficient energy transfer
- Energy monitoring on screen
- Full history of hammer performance
- Intelligent stroke control
- On screen fault diagnostics
An electronic control system constantly monitors the drop weight position. This allows the switching timing on the main hydraulic spool to be trended to continually optimise hammer performance under varying piling conditions, i.e. by hard driving with rebound, soft driving with a running pile etc.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_column_text]
Pile Driving Information
As the electronic system constantly monitors the position of the drop weight, the velocity of it is known.
As the mass of the drop weight is known, the energy output can be accurately calculated and is displayed on the powerpack interface screen.
All information is available on the screen and can be recorded directly to a laptop via special interface software from Dawson. It is saved in a standard spreadsheet format whereby a blow by blow account of every pile driven and a day to day productivity can be documentet.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”3888″ img_size=”336 x 425″ alignment=”center” title=”Freehanging HPH1800 sheetpiling”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator color=”juicy_pink”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”3996″ img_size=”336 x 430″ alignment=”center” title=”Sheet legs with inserts for 300 and 450 mm ø”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]
Inserts
The HPH1200, HPH1800 and HPH2500 are standard delivered with sheet legs. With different inserts mounted in the legs, different sheet pile types and steel profiles can be installed.
With the right inserts, pipes with different diameter up to 450 mm ø can be installed too. Please refer to the cross sectional sketch showing insert for pipes 300 mm ø and 450 mm ø.
The HPH4500 and HPH6500 are delivered with or without legs according to the cusomer’s choice. Without legs it will be delivered with sleeve.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”4012″ img_size=”336 x 459″ alignment=”center” title=”HPH1800 Hammer with Inserts for Sheet Piling”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator color=”juicy_pink”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”6534″ img_size=”279×425″ alignment=”center” title=”Hammer on excavator – short legs”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”3893″ img_size=”336 x 425″ alignment=”center” title=”Hammer with Short Legs”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”3895″ img_size=”336x 424″ alignment=”center” title=”Hammer test – Leader Guided, Short Legs”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Power pack
The hydraulic oil supplied to the hammer comes from the power pack via a control valve mounted inside the top of the hammer. The valve switches the oil supply on or off at the upstroke side of the hydraulic ram i.e. oil supply “on” lifts the drop weight and oil supply “off” drops it.
For power pack specifications, please refer to the specification sheet above.
The Dawson hammers can easily be driven by alternative hydraulic systems, provided they are open systems, i.e. from:
- Excavators or piling machines
- Power Packs for hydraulic vibrators and other hydraulic hammers
- Hydraulic cranes
